the effect of iterax on me

I just woke up a little while ago at around 8 pm.

well after school kanina, i didn't go home agad. I went first to the grocery store to buy stuffs. Nakaauwi na ko at around 4 pm. Pahinga ng kaunti then I decided to go to sleep. I set the alarm clock of my Aunt's celphone so that I could wake up at 8. I even made sure na magigising talaga ako, kaya I told my Aunt to wake me pagnag-alam na ung phone, that is kung hindi pa din ako magising. At un na nga ang nangyari. Thanks to her.

Well, when my doctor precribed me that medicine, he told me naman na ayun ang side-effect nun. Yung makakatulog ka. Kaya nga feeling sleepy na ko an hour after I drunk it eh.

Dati I could even take 2 tablets in one shot at hindi pa din ako nakakatulog or inaantok, pero ngaun hindi na.

Mga later last year nag-start na tinatalaban na ko ng side-effect nung gamot. Hassle nga kasi dun na rin nag-start na mas madalas ako nagpapapuyat for school works eh. Kaya naman may times na hindi ko na talaga kaya antok ko kaya kahit gusto ko pa mag-extend sa ginagawa ko eh nagde-decide nalang ako matulog, o kung sa school naman ako tinalaban ng gamot eh hindi na ako nakakapg-isip ng maayos kasi all i have in mind na is matulog kahit pigilin ko. Pero buti naman hindi pa naman ako nakakatulog sa school. whew! buti naman. ^^;

Kainis! no choice kasi eh. Twing ina-allergy ako, as in sobrang kati ng buo kong katawan. I can't scratch it naman kasi baka magka-stretch marks na naman ako eh. Pero I'm not thinking of suiciding ah.

When we went to my doctor-- kung anu-anong tests ang pinagawa nya s'kin. I can't continue my medication naman kasi my time won't allow me to. Conflict eh. Kaya tuloy I have to rely on my medicine.

Grabe! hindi masaya magka-allergy na toh! Istorbo eh!

Hi! i think we have the same experience with allergies and the side-effects of Iterax. Hope it's ok if i tell you my story..

I don't know the exact source of my allergy. But it do come back from time to time. My theory is, I am allergic to strong chemicals, like some deodorants i.e. High Endurance (I can't remember the exact brand name). As a result, my doctor recommended me to use "Tawas." (Sorry, di ko alam English translation) Although tawas doesn't have any allergic reaction on me, it is not an effective deodorant. I bear with it for months until i learned the Ultra Mild / Aqua Cool deodorant for men of Nivea. And I've been using it for almost 2 years now. But recently i ventured to use another deodorant, Davidoff Coolwater deostick (May nag regalo lang sakin). Unfortunately, it has strong chemicals so I am back with my irritated skin. It usually starts in my armpit 'til it spread.

So i stopped using deodorant again. (Petroleum Jelly lang pinapahid ko lately). And i hope people will bear with me. Hehe.

As to the iterax: yes, it really makes me feel dizzy and sleepy. and i fear that i might have a hard time studying once i used it again. So before i buy one, i decided to search with Google.com the other effects of Iterax. Sleepiness nga talaga side-effect niya, and i confirmed it based on your blog.

Pardon for the long comment. Just want to voice out my own experience. I just want to tell, you're not alone who encountered the side-effect of Iterax.

Thanks

We have something in common guys! I've been using this drug since i got married almost ten years already. It really helps me a lot with regards to my allergy. But don't dare drinking it in the morning for sure you will get dizzy and surely fall asleep while doing your works and in school. You can't concentrate on anything you like to do if you take it coz what you really want to do is you wanna go to sleep. It's a good medicine guys but drink it an hour before u go to sleep... Good luck to us guys!!!

hi guys, i'm also suffering from some sort of allergy, seasonal nga lang, pag nag change ang weather, magiging itchy na skin ko. by the way, have you tried claritin? ok din yan, a bit expensive nga lang compared to iterax. my derma recommend it to take during the day, then iterax na sa gabi. don't scratch your skin too hard, i have scars na on my legs because of that, kainis! can't go out na wearing shorts anymore. :(

good luck to us!

Ah you're not alone with that problem. I have been taking iterax for 6 years, di naman daily ang paginom ako. Pag naramdaman ko na medyo nangangati na ako, I take it agad. I suggest that you better take it sa hapon or gabi para di ka sobra groggy. That's what I do kase. You also have to observe what you are eating. Me, I learned that eating nuts caused me itchiness kaya I avoid them na. Also some soaps or even lotion products. Kaya natin ito, we can still improve the quality of our lives.

Huhu.
Pwede ba kayo magbigay ng names ng other anti-itch tablets? Aside from Claritin?
I'm not sure kung Zyrtec yun eh...yun nga kaya yun? =\

September 2, 2009 at 7:23 PM

Hello guys! I also have the same problems regarding allergies. I also take Iterax...Nakakainis na uminom nito kasi naman antukin na nga ako in the first place tapos binigyan pa ako ng gamot na pampa-antok!

What's worse is that I still don't know the elements I'm allergic to.

October 13, 2009 at 2:13 PM

Hello there... there are a lot of other antihistamines out there. maybe you should consult that on your doctor.

October 22, 2009 at 7:57 AM

I have been taking iterax for the past 8 years and one of its side effects is indeed sleepiness. Piece of advice, in order to save more especially for those who are prescribed by their doctors to take a low dosage, buy the 25mg and divide it in half (as suggested by my allercologist) rather than buy the 10mg which is more expensive. In my case, I only drink iterax whenever my allergy acts up which usually happens when there is a sudden change in the weather, one week before my monthlies (during this time it's really bad), when i'm stress out, when i eat eggs and seafood (or basically anything not freshly caught or slaughtered and 'malansa'). Actually, i'm hypersensitive and based from my allergy test, i'm sensitive to everything. Imagine my reaction when i learned that 8 years ago. But 3 major no no's to me are dust mites, grass mites and...oh dear i forgot but it is also another breed of mites.

Other medicines i have tried are Alnix and Alerta. Alnix is less potent than iterax and it doesn't really makes you sleepy that much though the urge is still there. Advisable to drink this when your allergy is just beginning to act up. When your condition is really bad, Iterax is still the best cure (the 25mg but will surely knock you out). Oh Alnix is more expensive by the way. Alerta, another over the counter medicine, was suggested to me by a friend. Based from my experience it doesn't really have much effect on me. Eases the itchiness for a while but before you know it you'll find yourself scratching yourself again. The good thing about this is it doesn't make you sleepy. Yes, it doesn't BUT it's effect on me is much worse. I get moody and temperamental. My mind is alert though (unlike when i take Iterax) but the feeling of depression and unease are really bad. Due to this, i decided to check out Alerta's scripture and there you go, depression is one of its side effects. Haven't tried Claritin and Zyrtec but i heard they are good. But you have got to try it on yourself to know what's really the effect on you. It's different for everybody.

Btw, my allergy is hereditary. Got it from my mother's side. Fish Oil helps as well but prolong use will create an allergic reaction too according to my cousin...

Btw, to remove scars, i use Ysa Bleaching Soap. It is very effective. Removes all those ugly scars from my legs and arms...But for those who prefer to maintain their tan, this isn't advisable.

So there you go. Hope you guys learn something from this. =) Happy scratching! -->aargh soo not right hihi =)

Hi guys!

I just came across this site searching for info about Iterax. Do you still use Iterax? I would like to suggest an alternative sana kasi sa inyo. But before that, I would like you first to understand what exactly is an allergy and what causes it.

Allergies kasi are caused by the reaction of our bodies' immune system to foreign substances called allergens. Now, we all know that there are many types of allergies, one example is extreme itchiness and development of rashes (like in your case). Allergens are supposed to be harmless but the immune system treats it as if it is a "foreign invader". Take for example sea foods, peanuts, and even pollen from flowers. In essence, allergens could be any harmless substances that the immune system "thinks" to be a foreign invader and so attacks it, resulting to allergic reactions. So, why does the immune system attack harmless substances? In the medical world, it's still unknown. Allergies are classified as an autoimmune disease. Autoimmune diseases are not actually diseases but rather it is more of a disorder of the immune system. Any condition that has something to do with our immune system attacking another part or another organ of the body and/or the immune system attacking a harmless substance in the body is what we refer as autoimmune diseases. The sad part is that until now doctors and experts are still mystified by these disorders of the immune system. That is why there are no cure for such disorders. People who suffer from autoimmune diseases are only given medicines to treat the symptoms, not to cure the root cause of it. Sorry to say but Iterax is one of them. It only treats the symptoms (in your case itchiness) not the root cause of it. That's why it comes and goes.

Sa totoo lang, symptoms should never be cured or treated. Yun kasi ang signal ng body natin telling us that there's something wrong within or there's some trouble going on inside you. If you are startled in the middle of the night because your baby is crying, what will you do? Would you cover her mouth so you won't hear her loud cry and be startled again? Or would you try to find out the cause of her crying and address the problem accordingly? But the truth is when it comes to your allergies we always tend to go with option #1.

There's no one to blame. We are all taught that way. Since there is no cure, the only solution we are offered is the treatment of the symptoms. But what if I tell you that there's a better solution for that? And this solution I'm about to suggest actually zeroes in to your immune system not the symptoms itself. What I mean by that is it actually doesn't treat whatever symptoms you have, instead, it teaches your immune system to properly identify and spot which are the real invaders and the not-really-invaders in your body. Thus, making your immune system wiser. FYI: Our immune system is like an inner doctor within us. It knows exactly what's going on inside you, it knows how you got a certain disease and how to combat it. But without being given the proper knowledge and lack of nutrients, it can't address the problem within you properly.

So, what exactly is the solution I'm talking about? It's "Transfer Factor". It's not a medicine. It's not a hormone, nor enzymes. It's a molecule in a form of food supplement that educates your immune sytem (your inner doctor) to be more wiser in fighting off diseases and in the case of autoimmune diseases, identify properly which are not invaders in your system.

If you like to know more about Transfer Factors and where you can get it, you can contact me thru: (0922) 864-1711 & mailbox_dt@yahoo.com. I'm Dennis Ting, by the way.

What's the catch? There's no catch. I just like to share what I know. And maybe what I know can actually help you. God bless you! =)

i really find ur testimonials very informative, however, my reason for taking iterax is not due to allergies but rather due to my anxiety. i really hate this feeling but i guess i got this nervousness from my mom.

July 26, 2010 at 4:05 PM

hi.. I have this kind of disease called dyshidrosis.. I read a blog in other site that anti-anxiety works with this disease. I don't know really whats the cause of my disease. it affects only my left hand,, yung sobrang kati tapos may mga tiny blisters and when you pop it out may lumalabas na tubig, then after more days becomes scally, breaking and nasusugat.. Sino kaya sainyo pwede makapagtro kung ano gamot dito.. I don;t know if this is autoimmune or allergic lang into something.. But i was wondering, kasi a week before i have my monthly period, it appears again. Blisters appear every two weeks... Oh, the wounds hurt so bad and itch like hell...
help plzzz...

I'm taking Iterax because of anxiety... Is this effective? my psychiatrist prescribed me this medicine.

October 4, 2010 at 8:34 PM

TO AC:

Iterax is really an antihistamine and is used primarily for relieving symptoms of allergies. But it can also be used for relieving symptoms of COMMON anxiety. That is the reason why you are prescribed with this medicine. And take note of it's sedative effect, it helps with execessive worrying or anxiety. You get to sleep soundly! However, you should also talk with your psychiatrist as to how long you should take Iterax. I looked it up in the net and it says that prolonged usage could be bad. It has many side effects and many contra-indications. I'm not trying to scare you. What I'm trying to say is that you should take caution when taking it. You shouldn't experiment with it but rather take it EXACTLY as prescribed to you.

October 12, 2010 at 3:22 PM

TO AC:

You were asking whether it's effective or not. Well, the truth is it really depends on the severity of your anxiety and it depends on how your body will interact with it. It's really a case-to-case basis. To be honest with you, you are given this prescription ONLY for RELIEVING SYSMPTOMS of anxiety not really for treating anxiety itself.

October 12, 2010 at 4:16 PM

TO AC:

I guess you are undergoing CAREFUL observation from your doctor. How long have you been with your psychiatrist? If only recently, then he probably is still trying to determine the severity of your anxiety. Consider it a test run. This is the stage where he is going to eliminate some factors so he can determine whether your anxiety is mild or severe. But if you are with your psychiatrist for quite some time now, then your anxiety, probably, to my opinion is just a mild one and doesn't need further therapies or whatsoever that's why he's given you Iterax only. Whatever it is, TRUST your psychiatrist. Talk to him regarding your condition. It will help a lot.

October 12, 2010 at 4:28 PM

TO AC:

Remember, treating anxiety is not just a pschiatrist's job. It is also your job to help yourself. So work with your psychiatrist. After all, he's the expert in it! :) If you're going to ask me, psycho therapy is still best. Because what really caused your anxiety IS IN THE MIND; and no amount of medication can really cure the mental state. If it's a mind thing then you gotta work THROUGH THE MIND as well. Well, that really is my opinion alone. You should really talk to your psychiatrist about it, okay? I hope I helped you in some way...

October 12, 2010 at 4:35 PM

Hi! I think we have the same experience with allergies and the side-effects of Iterax. Hope it's ok if i tell you my story..

Last year po kasi naging grabe yung allegies ko kailangan kong e confined sa hospital for alsost one week because of hypersensitivity reaction nga daw po sabi ng doctor ko and one of the prescription is iterax and during may confinement nag inject sila sa akin ng steroids, naging epekto nman non I gain weight for one week.

when I take Iterax para akong adict grogi talaga ako nakakatulong naman ako ng maayos yun ngalang pag may gagawin ako antok na antok ako parang may hungover and I notice nga na nawawala yung pangangati ko and I also notice yung skin ko medyo kumikinis din almos one week ko na syang iniimom (iterax) .

Masama ba if every day ako uminom ng Iterax?

October 13, 2010 at 10:29 AM

To Dennis Ting:

thank you po. actually, last last year pa yun.. pero parang nararamdaman ko kasi parang di ako makatulog. nagpapatulong din po kasi ang iterax para makatulog ka after 1 hour eh. so ngayon, i'm taking it regularly.. then so war, wala naman side effects. ano ba ang possibleng side effects nun(iterax)?

October 17, 2010 at 6:00 PM

hi! i was also using iterax for some time due to Chronic Urticaria. I have also tried using zyrtec pero di ko hiyang. Then I used Xyzal which was effective for some time pero ngayon hindi na. I think i have tried almost all the anti-allergy medicines because my allergies have been disturbing me for the last 13 years.

November 28, 2010 at 11:06 AM

To AC:

Sorry for the long delay in response. Medyo naging busy lang. Hehe! There could be many possible reasons as to why is that. To better understand it, I'll give you an analogy. Let's say there's a 5-year old boy, a 24-year old, and a 75-year old, each given a set of 10kg weights to carry a mile away. For the 5-year old, the set of weights and distance is too much. For the 24-year old, a little discomfort but he can carry out the task with not much of a problem at all. Lastly, for the 75-year old, the 10kg set of weights may not be the problem but the 1 mile distance is. In my example, you can see the different reactions of the 10kg weights depending on the characteristics of the person carrying it. Side effects are like that too. Tapos depende pa sa condition mo yan. Unlike allergies, axiety is your main concern. Remember, these kinds of drugs do ONLY CONTROL THE SYMPTOMS. It doesn't really treat your true condition. You said you don't feel or notice any side effects. But the truth is meron yan. Hahaha! :) The reason why I'm so sure na merong side effect yan is because iterax is meant to control. And when you control a chemical process in the body by introducing iterax, which is another chemical, you could be sure that there's an equal and opposite reaction, kumbaga positive and negative reaction. The negative part is what we call "side effects". You were asking ano yung mga possible side effects. Here are some of it: drowsiness (the most common), dry mouth, twitches, tremors and even convulsions (severe case only). You may experience other effects since anxiety ang condition mo. Whatever it is, don't take iterax in a long term basis. Consult your doctor first. And don't use it for insomnia, hindi sleeping pill yan. Take caution... God bless!

December 1, 2010 at 4:57 PM

To the one with Chronic Urticaria:

I made some research regarding your condition and the medicines you've been taking. I would like to explain to you a little bit about Chronic Urticaria. According to the research I made, the EXACT cause of this condition is still unknown and can be attributed to autoimmune problem. If you have read my previous posts regarding allergies, I've said there that our bodies' immune system attacks a supposedly harmless substance (e.g. pollen, fish, etc.) and the reaction causes inflammation (pamamaga). The RESULT of that inflammation is what's known to us as allergy. Now, in the case of Chronic Urticaria, allergic reactions from allergy to food, medicine, parasites in the gut, heat, emotion, strong sunlight, or even exercise triggers the body's release of histamine and other chemicals into our skin (take note: these are only few of the KNOWN "triggers", pero case-to-case basis pa rin sya). Now, these chemicals cause fluids to leak from blood vessels under the skin surface. This leakage of fluid, pag naipon, forms weals. Ang weals, ito yung nagform na matambok na part ng skin na mukhang blisters and very itchy. Either whitish sya or reddish. To make the situation worse, the fluid leakage also cause the blood vessels to dilate (open wide) which in turn causes the flare around the weals. Histamine is involved in the immune responses as well as regulating physiological functions in the gut. It triggers the inflammatory response needed by the body. The problem is when it didn't go well, for some reasons, Urticaria develops. That's why you are given Iterax, Zyrtec, or Xyzal (whichever works well). They are all antihistamine. They suppress your body from producing histamine. Now, here's what I want you to understand, no histamine means no inflammation. No inflammation means no allergies. It would seem to be a very nice battle plan. But the truth is, it didn't resolve the root cause of the problem. It's like having a punctured rooftop and everytime it rains, your house gets flooded. When you drink antihistamine, it's like suppressing the rain. No rain means no drippings from the punctured hole on the rooftop. No drippings means no flood. No flood, no mess! Nice di ba? But the problem is, like rain, histamine comes naturally! In fact, histamine is needed by our bodies for immune responses. saka hindi naman rain ang problema e kundi yung butas sa bubong. Yun dapat ang i-resolve. Likewise, when it comes to Urticaria, neither the allergy nor the histamine is the problem. Something else is! The problem with Urticaria and its kind is that the root cause is UNKNOWN. How can you cure something that is unknown?? That is why doctors only recommend antihistamine. Yes, it MAY make the SYMPTOMS go away but it doesn't CURE anything. You were asking me for a better alternative? I would suggest you try Transfer Factor (please refer to my earlier posts dated Feb. 8, 2010). Why Transfer Factor? It is the most safest since it doesn't treat any symptoms but rather zeroes in to your immune system, educates it for better immune response. It doesn't control any chemical processes inside the body so there's no side effects guaranteed. No worries since there's no overdosing, you can take as much as you like. In fact, it is even safe for infants! I'd like to say much more about it but I don't want it to look like I'm advertising it. I just like to help and share what I know. So instead of having it here, let's have it elsewhere. ;) You can contact me through my e-mail add: mailbox_dt@yahoo.com or through my mobile: (0922) 864-1711.

I hope naliwanagan ka regarding your condition kahit papaano. God bless! :)

December 3, 2010 at 4:40 PM

can i ask kng anu mgndang gawin or drug kasi uminom kmi ng the bar vodka tapos sinabayan nmen ng garlic shrimp.. then after a 12 hours namula peo ndi nmn blisters then we felt itchy na.. lalu na ko.. hope you could help us..thanks

December 27, 2010 at 11:29 AM

Dati na ba kayong may allergies or ngayon lang? Kasi kung ngayon lang, it may be the garlic shrimp like you're suggesting it. Maybe hindi malinis masyado yung shrimp or galing sya sa maruming tirahan. What I would suggest is wait for a few days or 1 week at the most. It will probably go away by itself. Pero kung after a week hndi pa rin nawala, you may need to consult a doctor. Don't try any over-the-counter drugs or medicines without consulting a doctor first ha. It can be fatal for you by just experimenting on it all by yourself. What you can do at the moment, however, is try drinking lots of water, more than 8 glasses a day the better. You need to do that to flush out any toxins or substances causing the itchynes in your body. It will help somehow.

hi, i just wanted to share my story as well. ive also been using iterax as prescribed by my doctor. i never actually even knew that it causes drowsiness. i never did get to experience that sort of stuff when i take it. my story isnt actually about iterax itself. i was just wondering why it never gave that sort of effect on me. not even a tiny yawn come out. i really dont know whats wrong with me. theres even this one time when i couldnt sleep so my aunt gave me a sleeping pill. i still couldnt sleep after 2 hours so i took another one. it was almost 4 am when i took my second one and guess what? i slept at 11 pm the next day. it was only then that i felt sleepy. is there something wrong with me? well, i know there is but just what exactly? can anyone please shed some light? sorry for my extra-long post.

January 12, 2011 at 3:46 PM

Hi! I read all the comments and would like to ask for advise from allergy sufferers like myself.

I've been diagnosed to have allergic rhinitis for 3 years now. My allercologist gave me this test and when the results came out, it turned out i'm allergic to dust mites and mouse hair. I was advised to purge my house of kapok, wrap my bed in plastic, etc. I bought this ultra violet sanitizing wand from the united states to kill the dust mites. I take aleva everyday. Pero tinatamaan pa rin ako ng severe allergic reaction and the symptoms for me are post nasal drip, clogged nose, itchy throat, cough, etc. which leads to infection of the upper respiratory system.

My ent prescribed iterax in addition to aleva (which I take at night). Iterax I take 2x within the day. I get sleepy but not as sleepy as you guys. I am given the grace to control my sleepiness because i need to care for my 2 year old son.

Is it safe to take both aleva and iterax? I'm always sick with these allery symptoms. In addition, I also have cercial spondylosis and meniere's disease. Is there really
a better way than to drink all these medicinal junk? My doc says it is safe to take aleva every day, but I have my doubts on that. please help me.

Ok, I will try to answer your questions to the best that I can but before that I'd like to explain first kung ano yung allergic rhinitis, Aleva, Meniere's disease, at cervical spondylosis for the benefit of those na unfamiliar with it (and saka for those na familiar with it na rin).

I made some research on the net regarding your conditions and here is what I learned:

Allergic Rhinitis
This is simply a type of allergy with symptoms mostly in the nose and eyes. So ano itong mga symptoms na ito? It maybe itchiness on the nose, eyes, throat, and/or skin; runny nose; clogged nose; problems with smelling; sneezing; coughing; sore throat; teary eyes; dark circles under the eyes; puffiness under the eyes; irritability; headache, etc. It really depends on the person and his location as to what kind of symptoms he'll have. So what triggers this type of allergy? Basically, this happens when you inhale an allergen and your body reacts to it violently. Ano ba itong allergens na ito? An allergen is anything that is supposedly harmless but when it enters your body, your immune system treats it as foreign invaders, and then launches an attack on it. In the case of allergic rhinitis, the type of allergens maybe dust; tiny hair/feathers/scales from animals; pollen, etc. These substances are really harmless but your body's defenses fights it as if infectious sila. Now, when your immune system is trying to defend your body, it raises your body temperature, and releases chemicals in the body (including histamine) to fight off the invaders. All these activities cause the affected area to swell and the allergic symptoms to come out.

Aleva
This medicine contains Ebastine, a substance used to counter the production of histamine and alleviate (relieve) allergic symptoms. This is the same as Iterax, they are both antihistamine. The difference is that it is specifically designed for allergic rhinitis and chronic urticaria. Contraindications are severe liver dysfuction and lactation -- meaning do not use this drug when you have liver dysfunction and/or when you have milk/breast-feeding. Side effects include headache, dry mouth, and drowsiness.

Basically, what this drug do is only try to counter the releasing of histamine in the body during your immune response to allergens. The "idea" is to hamper histamine, coz when it is hampered, inflammation can be hampered as well. No inflammations, no allergic symptoms. Now, be clear with this procedure and idea -- this DOESN'T actually cure you. It only tries to RELIEVE you of those pesky allergic symptoms.

Now, you said you've been given Iterax in addition to Aleva and you were asking whether is it safe or not. I have to ask you, does your ENT doctor knows you're already taking Aleva? If yes, I think he knows what he's doing. Otherwise, let him know immediately and see what he tells you. Maybe he allowed it knowing there's no contraindication between the 2 drugs, afterall, they're both antihistamine. Maybe, instead of increasing Aleva dosage, he preferred introducing Iterax since you said your symptoms persist.

Meniere's disease
This is an inner ear disorder that affects balance and hearing. The inner ear has fluid-filled tubes called semicircular canals. These canals, along with a nerve in your skull, help interpret your body's position and maintain your balance. This disease occurs when a part of the canal, called the endolymphatic sac, becomes swollen. This sac helps filter and remove fluid in the semicircular canals. Sadly, the exact cause of this disease is unknown. In some cases, it may be related to head injury, middle ear infection, and Syphilis. Other factors are allergies, use of certain medications (including aspirin), etc. Genetics can also be a reason.

If not genetics and head injury, I strongly believe that it is related with your allergic rhinitis, which I think when properly treated, will also cover meniere's disease at the same time.

My Recommendation
You asked: "Is there really a better way than to drink all these medicinal junk? My doc says it is safe to take aleva every day, but I have my doubts on that."

YES, there's a better way! My recommendation is take Transfer Factor. What is Transfer Factor exactly? And why did I say it is better? Transfer Factor are messenger molecules that transfer immune informations to your immune system, thus making it "wiser". When immune informations are transfered to your system, it teaches your immune cells to properly detect and identify real and fake invaders. It also teaches your immune system to know HOW to act, WHEN to act and WHEN to REST.

Simply put: With the immune information already in you, your immune response will be better and wiser. Your immune system will know HOW to act with real/fake invaders, know WHEN to act with it, and When inflammation is prolonged, it will know how to make it rest and calm down. The big difference compared to taking medicines is that in the medicines, you rely on the medicine to control the symptoms. Tapos, ite-testing pa ng doctor mo yung tamang dosage, so basically trial and error pa yun. But with Transfer Factors, you don't rely on the supplement itself, you actually rely on your immune system to properly do its job. That would be much better kasi ang immune system natin ang first line of defense ng body natin, it is our "inner doctor". Your body knows exactly how you got a certain disease, so your body also knows exactly how to cure itself. Sometimes, kulang lang ang body natin with proper artilleries (like nutrition, vitamins and minerals) and when it comes to autoimmune diseases kulang lang ang body natin with proper "knowledge" and intuition. I believe transfer factor is the better choice kasi it's an immune system problem, therefore, we should deal with it thru the immune system as well. One more thing, with Transfer Factor you don't control any symptoms like that of the medicines, but rather you let your inner doctor do the job. It is natural, so there's no side-effects. If you want more info, do contact me na lang. My e-mail add is mailbox_dt@yahoo.com and my mobile # is (0922) 864-1711.

I'd like to clear something to you coz you have mentioned that "your allergic reactions leads to infection of the upper respiratory system". Actually, that's not the case. This is a common misconception. You might actually think that you are infected by viruses because your symptoms are somewhat similar to that when you have flu or colds. But there's a difference. Those are just mucus discharges only and there's actually no infection even though there is inflammation or swelling (which is an indication that there is an infection) inside your body. So what's wrong in the picture ba? You see, our immune system should ONLY attack those that are trying to invade and infect our system but yours also attack those that are NOT invaders and/or NOT infectious at all.

So why would your immune system do that? Unfortunately, the reason is unknown. There are still no findings as to why the immune system attacks a harmless substance or attacks a part of the body itself. This type of condition is what we refer to as "autoimmune disease". Unknown cause sya. To make things more clear, wala dun sa procedure ng immune system in defending your body ang problema. Actually, the problem really lies in your immune system's ability to recognize pathogens (invaders). In my observations, when the immune system is poor in determining the real/fake invaders in the body, they also have trouble knowing when to stop attacking and regulating the inflammation (swelling) in the body. That is why I have said this is an immune system problem. In the medical world kasi, there is no cure, you are only given medicines to RELIEVE the symptoms and if possible just avoid the known triggers.

Lastly, regarding Cervical Spondylosis
This is a disorder in which there is abnormal degeneration on the cartilage and bones of the neck. It means that the cartilage and bones in the cervical spine including the cervical disks are subjected to abnormal wear and tear. Its symptoms are neck pain that may radiate to the arms or shoulder; stiff-neck that gets worse over time; loss of sensation or abnormal sensations in the shoulders, arms, or legs; weakness of the arms or legs; and headaches, especially in the back of the head. The major risk factor is aging, which makes this oddly interesting... Wala ka pa namang 60 di ba? However, other factors that can develop spondylosis are past neck injury, severe arthritis, and past spine surgery.

Hmmm.... now that it's mentioned here, have you had any surgery before or any head trauma before? Kasi with the consistency of your conditions, parang yung Meniere's disease and cervical spondylosis mo ay dun nagmula... You should consult your doctor and have him run some tests on you to verify that. Yun lang muna siguro and masasabi ko until further findings. I hope you'll reply back. God bless!

I have allergy and when I had my CT scan, I discovered I have fatty liver. Usually, skin allergy is a symptom of having problem with liver. Have a blood test and if possible you undergo ultrasonography to know if you have problem with your liver.

I've been using iterax as well and in less than an hour, itchiness stops but it comes back again in 2 or 3 days. i still dont know what's causing my allergies. if i start scratching, it starts from somewhere and stops and move to somewhere else that u couldnt even scratch cause it is embarassing specially if u are in public areas. i get big rashes and redness. doctor advised not to eat chicke, seafood and egg. i dont eat them for a while and still allergy exists so it means it is something else. iterax helps but i was suggested to use telfast instead if u dont wanna feel drowsy. it is true that after effect of iterax is u still feel sleepy after a long sleep. weird but true!

Hi Dennis,

I'am suffering from urticaria (not sure if it's chronic or acute). I'm a bit curious about what you had mentioned above - Transfer Factor.

My allergy started year 2004 after I ate Oishi prawn crackers at school. I really can't remember anything other than that. After such thing, I noticed that I get allergic reactions when I eat food that contain high allergens like eggs, chickens, seafoods, etc. I was just not really sure why in some cases that even if I don't eat anything, I still get attacked by the allergies. There had been several doctors who gave me prescriptions and I couldn't even remember some of them except Iterax and Lorano.

I had only been educated about Urticaria when I was already working and one nice dermatologist gave me information about the illness. Only then that I realized that it has many causes and based on my observations, I get allergic reactions when I eat foods that contain high allergens including other oily food (fried), when the weather changes, and exercise (i just realized this two days ago and still not so sure about it).

in May 2009, I even got admitted for three days in one of the hospitals in Makati because of high fever that triggered the allergy to attack me again and I was really having a hard time breathing. The funny thing is, the diagnosis of the doctor was not at all related to my allergies which I thought should have been. He said it was just "Systemic Viral Infection". In all fairness, after I got out of the hospital, I didn't suffer for any allergic reactions to food and anything under the sun for two years until yesterday (Sept 17, 2011).

I don't really know what the cause of the allergy is. Below are my activities for the last few days that may have triggered the allergy to come back:
-I just didn't get enough sleep several nights last week plus work related stress
-I ate chicken last Friday, Sept 16 at 1pm,
-I got headache at 3:30pm and took 1 advil liquid,
-I took a nap for an hour,
-played badminton from 6pm to 9pm (first time after a year),
-ate bangus fried in butter at 10pm,
-woke up as early as 5:30am on a Saturday with 3 packs of pancit canton for breakfast (my body was weak and muscle pains manifested).
-volunteered at CRIBS orphanage from 9am to 11am
-ate pinakbet with bagoong, pork sinigang, pork sisig, beef nilaga at 12noon
-stopped smoking for two days
-at 1pm allergy attacked
-i tooked iterax 10mg at 2pm and every four hours until today, Sept 18, 10am
-tried smoking again at 10am after taking one pill
-allergy subsiding and am still observing...

Trying to remember what happened for the last few days is really an effort just to figure out what could have triggered the allergy to come back. I am planning to visit the dermatologist anytime soon because taking iterax every 4 hours or when allergy occurs is my prescription 2 years ago and I am not sure if it is still applicable to me right now. As I type right now, I feel dizzy and sleepy.

Anyway, sorry for this long entry. As I've said, I am interested about Transfer factor. I would like some more information about it.

Looking forward to read your reply. I also have sent an email copy on this. thanks so much! :)

It's interesting to find this website. I was prescribed today by my derma to take Iterax until Saturday. Sadly, I have rashes all over my body which started Monday this week. First time ko nagkaruon ng ganito kadaming rashes. And I remember eating crabs on Sunday and then Monday nag-start na maglabasan yung mga rashes. I suspected it was because of the crabs but ironically, I used to eat crabs ng hindi nman nangyayari ito. So may derma says it's got nothing to do with the crabs I ate. She asked what soap I was using and when I said it's safeguard nag-freak out sya, saying it's not a good soap. Ever since mild lng talaga soap na gamit ko like Ivory and Dove extra sensitive. As for safeguard I only started using it for the last two weeks. She said it's because of the soap while I insist it's because of the crab. Anyway, one of the meds na prescribed nya is yung Iterax, 3 times a day. Wow, naisip ko how can I work kaya kung lagi akong aantukin. SUper antok yung feeling ko tlaga every time I drink Iterax. Does anyone know kung ano yung tawag sa ganung test and how much it'll cost. Sa UST Hospital ako madalas magpa-check up since malapit ako dun.

October 19, 2011 at 7:46 PM

Hi, Wandergirl!

I'm not really sure if there's a specific test for that matter and if there is, I have no idea how much it would cost.

Honestly, I think that would be a waste of time and money to do that. Kase, everything is trial and error lang naman when it comes to allergies. Even the prescriptions the doctors will give you are all trial and error. There's no such thing as a 100% guaranteed effective medicine. Case-to-case basis pa rin yun per individual. That's why sa Iterax may mga tao na hindi naman tinatamaan ng antok as it's supposed to. My point is don't waste your time, energy, and money in trying to know EVERY single food and substance that will cause you allergies. It would be a futile attempt. Ok, don't get me wrong.... I'm not saying na don't try to figure it out at all. While knowing and avoiding your known allergens helps and saves you the trouble, it's not always the best solution. Allergic reactions have endless possible causes. It's not limited to the food you take or the substances you put over your skin. Changes in weather can also trigger allergic reactions. Your surroundings can also play a part on it, like pollution/dusts, etc. There's also instances that allergic reactions are triggered only when two or more substances are combined or mixed altogether. It's an endless possibility! You could be correct to suspect that it was the crab all along. But your dermatologist could also be correct in suspecting it was the soap you used all along. Or, it's also a possibility that both of you are correct that's why as you have said ganun ka-grabe ang rashes mo (Nag-trigger allergy mo sa crab, sinabayan pa ng allergy sa soap).... Hahaha! Don't be. :) I'm just showing you the possibilities, hindi naman defitely ganun na nga yun. Meron ka bang iba pang kinain or ininom along with the crab? Or it could plainly be that specific crab. Or possible that it's the weather all along, sobrang init lately kasi. Possible din na because of the extreme heat of the weather, you became vulnerable to allergens like that of the crab or the soap. This is exactly what I meant when I said it's a futile attempt. I hope you see my point. :) So, what to do now?

I don't know if you're open to the idea of making your immune system wiser and letting it do the job instead of depending on medicines to suppress the symptoms of your allergy. But for me, it's a better alternative. It's not a 100% guarantee, like I've said it's case-to-case basis. But it's safer and have no side-effects. Let me know if you're interested. Here's my number: (0922) 864-1711

Hello everyone! I'd like to ask anyone here who is taking or has taken iterax for sleeping problems or for general anxiety purposes... I'm supposed to take the Bar Exams this October.. 1 month nalang yun.. Needless to say, my anxiety is creeping in again... di ako makatulog (which is so unhelpful, considering that I should be sleeping regularly by now - 10pm - 6am)... Ano kayang iterax ang bibilhin ko.. And I'm supposed to take it during nighttime right?

Wow. Great posts. My doc also prescribed Iterax for me bec of seasonal allergies. I just recovered from colds the other wk but my coughing stll hasnt gotten better. I described the phlegm to my doc and she explained that it wasnt the kind that needs to be treated by antibiotics- it was seasonal allergies. I took Iterax for a week and -wow my coughs went poof! My doc takes extra good care of me whenever i have cough and colds bec my asthma just always goes with it. It really helps a lot kasi i also have trouble sleeping at night kaya my doc chose this med instead of the usual antihistamine. Double purpose na rin.

Akala ko dati ako lang nakaka - experience ng pangangati ng katawan at di malamn kung ano nag trigger ng allergy...Glad to know that di pl ako nag-iisa.

It started nung 2nd year college ako, I was 16 then, lagi ako late kung pumasok kasi minsan halos isang oras ako kamot ng kamot ng balat (almost every part of my body). As days gone by I limit my intake to half a tablet, then a few days pa I tried skipping one to two days before I take another iterax, tpos napansin ko nlng di n ko inaatake ng itchiness. I tried other antihistamine and for me effective ung nabibili sa Generics Pharmacy, I forgot the name pero kasing itsura nya ung iterax. I take it kung nararamdaman ko n pangangati. Pag nagtake ako ng gamot three to four days bago maulit, but this last few months mga 7 days or more bago mangati uli katawan ko.

Hope someone would post a comment about other side effects ng antihistamine..

MY PERSONAL TREATMENT>>>.Ang skin disease natin is called ECZEMA..o atopic dermatitis... allergy s Dumi Ng hangin, chocolate, shrimp, alimango, peanut or any nut, shells, eggs, lahat Ng food Na my gatas o dairy products, beer din dahil sa yeast content ng beer.

Glad to found this site. Akala ko talaga ako lang ang yung feeling na naiiyak na sa kakati parang end of the world na kasi puno na ang buong katawan ng pantal. Before hindi ako allergic sa egg, shrimps, baggong, chocolates, nagstart to siya after ko manganak saking eldest that was 2008. Anyway,i went to the derma and he advice me to use dove sensitive soap and apply physiogel after. It worked and was using dove soap regualrly. Pero minsan daw it affects emotional stress daw kaya lumalabas yan. Which is true kasi pag may iniisip ako or nag woworry ako pansin ko lumalabas siya. Until my doctor told me to take iterax.

Found this site because of iterax.
Can anyone try to help me with my situation? Sa Gabi before I go to sleep, nangagati po ang foot ko.. Sa may middle area and sometimes climbs up hanggang sa upper heel area at sa likod ng tuhod.
When I went to the hospital to have it checked. ITERAX yung binigay na gamot. I'm wondering if I should also see an allerdologist. (No known allergies so far) itchiness does not happen within the day. Just when I'm about to sleep.

June 8, 2016 at 2:12 AM

Nangangati ako now kaya di ako makatulog.. naubusan kasi ako ng cetirizine na lagi ako may stock at lagi ko din dala. Dati Iterax iniinom ko then sobrang hirap kapag nagtake ako parang lasing na lasing talaga sa antok.. then ngtry ako ng ibang antihistamine..dito sa cetirizine di ako inaantok kya mas prefer ko sya. Kaso nagsearch ako ngayon at may mga nabasa ako di maganda about cetirizine parang nagiging dependent na ako sa cetirizine at pag di ako nagtake araw araw nangangati ako kya obligado ako to take it everyday.. meaning addict na yun body ko sa cetirizine kaya naisip ko bumalik sa iterax kaso ayoko talaga ng effect nyang nakakagroggy... hays buhay nga naman nating mga may allergy sa kung ano pa man yan o nasa genes na talaga hirap!

Most of the bloggers have allergies and consulted an allergologist..Havent they suggested to you guys to undergo Immunotherapy? IS there anyone from here who have undergone the procedure? If so..it is effective?

September 21, 2017 at 9:58 PM

hi sa 10 years po n yun araw araw mo iniinum yung iterax?

November 22, 2017 at 8:08 AM

Why ask? For me, shortest is 3 hrs, longest is 10.

I would not recommend using this just knock you out and have a great sleep. I am currently using the drug to alleviate symptoms of anxiety. Those horror stories in which they tell you they have experienced out-of-body experience after taking this? They are quite real and scary.
